The 2012 Autosport International Show was our ninth outing in the Live Action Arena at Birmingham's NEC &, as in previous years, represented another step forward. While the format of the show remained fairly constant to previous performances, this year saw the evolution of the first section of the show away from a Channel 5 5th Gear promo to presenter driven action within the overal performance itself. Anchors Jason Plato & Louise Goodman battled it out against each other in a number of driving challenges, with Louise normally coming out tops through scripted sequences designed to put Jason at a disadvantage. In one such challenge, Jason took an audience member for a spin in a Mercedes impressing with his driving skills, burning tyres & drifting. When it came to Louise's turn to impress, she recruited the show's 'Grid Girls' to pamper the lucky man in the back seat, all caught on camera. The choice between the two rides was therefore a simple on & Louise mainly won out, except for a few occasions! Supporting talent came in the shape of third anchor & Live Action host Dave Richardson, alongside Amy Dargan & the legendary voice of Brands Hatch, Brian Jones. Other action in the show included: the Maxxis Drifting Team, featuring Boyzone's Shane Lynch; The UK FMX motoX stunt team who thrilled with 360 degree back flips & jumps through fire; The McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalists, complete with the winner racing round the arena in an F2 car; a record breaking two wheel driving routine by Terry Grant; an exclusive appearance by United Autosport's new McLaren MP4 12C in a condensed 24hr feature & a highly popular appearance from the team of injured servicemen behind Race2Recovery, who will be challenging the Dakar Rally in 2013. Maximus Productions produced all the screen visuals which were split between the main screens and low resolution panels on all the arena's pillars, with different but complimentary schemes for each canvas. We also provided creative direction to the show, working with presenters & show contributors, as well as creating the music soundtrack to accompany the action.
